Corporate Sustainability & Environmental Rights in Asia conference will be held in-person from the 4-5 October 2023 at United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand. The conference cohosted by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), will bring together business leaders, investors, policymakers, and civil society actors to exchange views on the role of private sector in strengthening the newly recognized right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment (R2HE).
Plastic Pollution in Asia: Business models that integrate a rights-based approach along the plastic value chain session is organized by the SEA circular project and will draw out the unique challenges and opportunities in addressing plastic pollution and discuss approaches needed for the region, while detailing emerging regulatory standards including EPR. The session will articulate the tradeoffs as consumers and producers shift away from harmful plastics and restore marine life, healthy coastal ecosystems, while also enhancing human health.
The following outcomes are expected from this session
- Increased understanding of the human-rights approach to reduce plastic pollution
- A set of recommendations for policy makers to ensure a rights-based approach to the plastics lifecycle
- Constructive dialogue between business, government and civil society on business and policy formation, emerging regulatory requirements and enforcement measurements.
This session is scheduled to take place on October 5th, running from 14:00 to 15:30 (ICT), at Conference Room 3, UN Conference Centre Bangkok, Thailand.
